He became involved in the automotive trades while in his teens and founded Garry Rariators Limited at the age of twenty, and subsequently Welders Supplies Ltd., in 1946.
Mr. Cockshott was a member of Prince Rupert Lodge No. 1 A.F. and A.M., the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Khartum Temple of the Shrine, Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, Nationl Welding Supply Association, Automotive Trades Association and St. George's Anglican Church.
