Elizabeth (Betty) J. Box, 87, of La Porte, Indiana, died Monday November 17, 2014 at Golden Living Center Fountainview in LaPorte, IN.
She was born June 29, 1927 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Harry Cockshott and Jesse (Bishop) Cockshott.
Betty had worked for Hook's Drug Store. She was a LaPorte Hospital Volunteer. Betty loved flowers, gardening and was an animal lover. She worked hard all her life, raising four children alone after the death of her husband. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
On May 17, 1946, in LaPorte, IN, she married John P. Box who preceded her in death September 7, 1964.
She is survived by her three sons, Phillip (Paulette) Box of Michigan City, IN, Michael J. (Joy) Box of La Porte, IN, Jeffrey A. Box of La Porte, IN; son-in-law, Michael Workman of La Porte, IN; ten grandchildren, Paul, Trisha, Jennifer, John Michael, David, Liz, Nick, Mikayla, Chad and Ryan and seven great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Susan E. Workman, and four brothers.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, November 21, 2014, from 11:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday November 21, 2014 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Bill Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at the Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana.
