Alice Beth Benner, 63, of Waco, formerly of Gatesville, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at a Waco nursing home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness and love. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Turnersville Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Beth was born in Belton, Texas, to Ruby "Buck" Talbert Cockrell and Kathleen Cockrell and was the oldest of seven children. As a child, Beth lived the majority of her life in Nevada, Texas, where she attended school and graduated as salutatorian. She worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the largest portion of her life where she climbed through the ranks from correctional officer to lieutenant to finally case manager. During her career, Beth met and befriended many that worked alongside her and enriched the lives of everyone around her. In 1974, she married Charles "Charlie B" Benner, of Gatesville, Texas. They enjoyed a wonderful life together and spent many happy moments playing with their nine grandchildren, who were the light in her eyes.

She is survived by her husband, Charlie B. Benner, of Waco; sons, Rob Williams, of Waco, Scott Williams, of Gatesville, and Chad Benner, of Amarillo; daughter, Amanda Benner, of Gatesville: brothers, Denver Cockrell, of San Diego, Calif., Danford Cockrell, of Temple, Bradley Cockrell, of Kempner, Royse Cockrell, of Gatesville, and Humphrey Cockrell, of Salado; sister, Brenda Adams, of Temple; and nine grandchildren.
