Carolyn Renick Cockrell Ardery
92, Lafayette Place, former co-owner of Ardery Drug Store, widow of Fayette Ardery, Jr., died Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Central Baptist Hospital. She was born November 30, 1916 in Clark County, daughter of the late Lindsey and Cornelia Renick Cockrell a graduate of Winchester High School, Brenau University in Gainesville, FL, and UCLA. Mrs. Ardery was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church under three ministers, Past President of Women of Church, two time President and Secretary-Historian of Blue Grass Chapter Colonial Daughters of 17th Century, Jemima Johnson Chapter DAR, longtime member of Duncan Tavern Historic Center Board serving as chair and treasurer, a continuous Duncan Tavern board member since the early 1940's; member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, member of Paris-Bourbon County Historical Society, a director for two terms of the Stoner Creek Country Club, former member of the Bourbon County Women's Club serving as secretary, chair of the Junior Department and Literature and Arts Department, President and Secretary of Houston Creek Homemakers, Docent for the Hopewell Museum, served as a Gray Lady at the VA Hospital, first Teen Square Adult Board member, founding member of the Parent Teacher Association of Paris Highs School, a room mother at Paris City Schools for nine years, and was a charter member of the Blue Grass Garden Club. She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Ardery Lawrence; two granddaughters, Dr. Amy Renick Lawrence, Elizabeth Ardery Lawrence; a son-in-law, Dr. Robert Don Lawrence; a niece, Lois Hyden Fein; and two nephews, Robert Renick Cockrell and Matt Thomas Cockrell. Visitation will be 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 30, at the Paris Cemetery Chapel. Casket bearers will be Buckner Woodford, IV, Buckner Woodford, V, David Woodford, Charles Woodford, Robert Lankford, John VanMeter Woodford, and Edmond Boyle. Honorary bearers will be Mike Horne, Jeff Layson, J.P. Shipp, Henry Prewitt, and Winstead Thomas Buckner. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at the First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Betsy Steiner. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or Duncan Tavern.
