WASHINGTON Oct 21 (W)--- Allister Cochrane, 86, who came to Washington for a temporary job in 1902 and stayed to report debates in the House of Representatives for 52 years, died Wednesday. Cochrane, a native of Brampton Ontario, came here from Detroit where he was a court reporter to handle recording of hearings by a Senate committee on whether to dig a canal across Panama or Nicaragua. After three days he was asked to fill in as House reporter until a regular employee recovered from an illness. He stayed there until his retirement in June 1953.
