Obit: The Anthon Herald, 7 September 1983, page 5: Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 1983, at the Church of Christ for Mrs. Alvena Cochran. Mrs. Cochran was born April 5, 1901, and passed away August 29, 1983. Rev. Tom Steele officiated at the services. Pallbearers were grandsons, Gary Riordan, Steve Kirchner, Robert Kirchner, Daniel Kirchner, Mark Kirchner, Randall Kirchner. Alvena I. Cochran was born at Battle Creek, Iowa, April 5, 1901, to Fritz and Bertha (Burow) Roggatz. She passed away at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa, August 29, 1983, at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 24 days. She was married February 21, 1917, at Sioux City, Iowa, to George S. Kirchner, who preceded her in death November 4, 1931. To this union were born Walter, Harry, Homer, Wilbur and Effie. On May 30,1945, she was married to Milton G. Cochran at Hancock, Iowa. They had one son, Dean. The couple lived in Correctionville until 1980 when they moved to Washta. Also preceding her in death were two sons, Walter and Dean, her parents, two brothers, Herman and Carl, one sister, Minnie Sands Gerdes, a stepson, Ronald Cochran and two grandsons. Survivors include three sons, Harry of Quimby, Homer of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Wilbur of Toledo, Iowa, daughter Effie, Mrs. Dale Riordan of Pierson, one stepson, Lyle Cochran of Willits, California, and four sisters, Anna Sands of Holstein, Mrs. Walter (Martha) Handke of Dunlap, Mrs. Elmer (Tillie) Sands of Correctionville and Edna Wright of Correctionville; one brother Walter of Montevideo, Minnesota, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, six step grandchildren, fourteen step great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Interment was made in Fairfield Cemetery at Rock Branch.
