Irel "Vic" Cochran, 72, of Swan died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center of a heart ailment. Services were held March 11 at Overton Funeral Home with interment at Webb Cemetery in Norwalk.
Mr. Cochran was born in Appanoose County and had lived in Swan the past four years. He also lived in Cincinnati, Iowa, Fort Smith Ark., Des Moines and Hoyt Lakes, Minn.
He worked for Solar Aircraft in Des Moines until the plant closed. He then moved to Hoyt Lakes, Minn., working for Erie Mining Taconite Plant for nine years. He retired from Armstrong Tire in 1991.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Indianola Church of Christ. He enjoyed playing cards and working in his shop to do craft work.
Survivors include his wife, Vi; three daughters, Vickie Aasland of Hillsboro, Ore., and Phyllis Stutes and Rhonda Cochran, both of Des Moines; two sons, Ronald of Huxley and Randall of Swan; two brothers, Ivan of Cincinnati, and Ira of Loveland, Colo.; two sisters, Iola McMurrow of Cincinnati and Ilin Bowen of Centerville; 14 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianola Church of Christ Building Fund.
Overton Funeral Home handled arrangements.
