Jean was born December 5, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Ernest Fredrick and Opal Salome (Mead) Groth. She attended school in the Shellsburg area and graduated from High School there. She married Jack Coberly when she was 21. Jean was a wonderful wife, Mother and friend. Everyone liked Jean the minute they met her. She was studious and always busy with a project at home, or something to do with her kids at school. She loved being a Mother! Suddenly 12 years after her wedding, cancer struck. She fought hard, undergoing brain surgery but the cancer won and took the life of this gallant lady. It seemed unbelievable, but she was called to Heaven August 12, 1961 It was extremely hard on her family, as they had been such a close loving family. Jean married Jack Willard Coberly, and her brother, Richard Groth, married Jack's sister, Martha Marie Groth. So, a brother and sister married a brother and sister. This brought the two families even closer! The love the families had for Jean will never fade away.
"They'll think of her throughout each passing day. They'll walk in a room and see her empty chair, although they know she is resting, they'll feel her presence there. The memories of her laughter, her warm and loving smile, her eyes so full of happiness, her heart that of a child. Memories are forever; be they laughter or tears. Memories they'll treasure through all the forthcoming years!" ~Anon
