Martha Dawn Cobb Adkins, age 62, of Main Street, Lenoir, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the residence. She was born November 7, 1950 in Caldwell County to the late Fred Wesley and Helen Clarke Cobb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband and life-long friend, Jerry Adkins; aunt, Kat McGalliard, sister, Shirley Mae Cobb.

Ms. Adkins was retired Director of Volunteers for Caldwell Memorial Hospital with 35 years of service. After her retirement she was involved in volunteer work with Whitnel Elementary School, Helping Hands Clinic, Koinonia Apartments and Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church. She enjoyed making jewelry and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include son, Brian Adkins and wife Billie of Lenoir; God-daughter, Hope Sumlin Coffey of Wilkesboro; brother, Ted Cobb of Bolivia, NC; grandchildren, Amanda Elizabeth Adkins and fiancé Chris Church; Christopher Keith Adkins, step-grandchildren, Jeffrey Story and wife Jessica and Olivia Mejia; great-grandchild, Gunner Robert Church; step-great-grandchildren, Lillie Story, Joshua Story, Nevaeh Story; long-time friends and caregivers, Debbie Laws, Linda Barnes, Sarah Coley and Pam Coffey; three nephews and one niece.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Jennifer Hiatt and Rev. Tim Hawkins.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Mike Cobb, Richard Cobb, Ed Cobb, Lonnie Thomas, Earl Laws and Ron Coley.
