James H. Coates
Birth: Nov. 27, 1829
Death: May 17, 1902

Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served in the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 11th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "faithful and meritorious services". After the war he worked as a grain merchant. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
