Lydia Denton (Bingham) Coan was the daughter of Hiram and Sybil (Moseley) Bingham, 1st. She was a teacher at Delaware Literary Institute, Franklin, New York and was also Principal of Ohio Female College at College Hills, near Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the 2nd wife of Rev. Titus Coan. They were married Honolulu, Hawaii October 13, 1873.
