The Rev. Donald A. Coakley of St. Susanna Catholic Church in Plainfield died Thursday evening in the church rectory at the age of 53. He had been at the Plainfield Parish for the past 10½ years. A native of Linton, he was born July 20, 1915, the son of the late Timothy Coakley and Lenna Coulter Coakley of Linton, who survives. He was ordained in the priesthood in 1939 from St. Meinrad's Seminary. He served as assistant in the Richmond, Terre Haute, Indianapolis and New Albany parishes. He also served the parishes of St. Bernards at Frenchtown and St. Elizabeth at Cambridge City prior to coming to St. Susanna in Plainfield. Vespers of the Dead was Monday afternoon from St. Susanna Catholic Church. Recitation of the Rosary was Sunday evening. Parish Requiem Mass was Monday evening with Funeral Mass Tuesday morning by Archbishop Paul Schulte at St. Susanna Church. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery at Linton. The Hall-Baker Funeral Home of Plainfield was in charge of arrangements. Surviving with the mother are three brothers and five sisters.
