A. M. Clubb, 2nd of eight known children, was living at 1104 Chestnut and passed away at his home of Bright's Disease* under the care of Dr. K. E. Baker, prominent Carthage physician.
Mr. Clubb was the manager J W Clubb & Co grocery located at 416 Cedar st in Carthage, Missouri.

Anthony Clubb's family was counted as one of the earliest pioneers of Jasper county, Missouri
Father Peter W. Clubb and mother Rhoda Starnes Clubb

Records show that his father, Peter W. Clubb, b.1820 purchased land in Springfield, Greene county, Missouri on the First day of September 1858 for property in Sarcoxie, Jasper county, Missouri that was the first area of Jasper county settled.
The father, Peter W. Clubb was attached as a Union private in the UNION MISSOURI VOLUNTEERS 9th Regiment, Missouri State Militia Cavalry. He died during the Civil War on June 11, 1863 in the Post Hospital at Mt. Pleasant, MO.

Anthony was married to Miss Clarinda Jane Comer age 21 on 26 Sep 1867 at Moniteau, Missouri

1870 United States Federal Census enumerated 10 Aug 1870 reports that Anthony M. Clubb was age 23 and working as farm labor. Also in the home was his wife Clarinda, age 18 and their son, John W. Clubb age 2.
Their home was rural Carthage, Marion Twp., Jasper county, Missouri.

By the time the 1880 US Federal Census was enumerated on 9 Jun 1880, John's father Anthony, now 34, is still working on a farm to support his growing family. His wife Clarinda is now 28 and there are now more children. John W is now 12; brothers are James W. age 8, Samuel W. age 6, Burtie[Bertie] M. age 3 and baby sister Mary G. is 10 months old.
NOTE: Mary G is later identified as Gertrude Neidardt, wife of H. L. Neihardt.

He was in business with several of his sons in the grocery business in the Carthage area. His funeral was handled by the Knell Undertaking Company and burial was in Park Cemetery.

DEATH OF A. M. CLUBB

Well Known Carthage Grocer Dies of Stomach Trouble

Stomach trouble caused the death of A. M. Clubb, for 40 years a resident of Jasper county, which occurred at 5 o'clock this morning at the Clubb home, 1104 Walnut street. He was engaged in the grocery business, conducting a store on Walnut street, and was 66 years old.
He had suffered from stomach trouble for more than ten years. his last illness began about ten weeks ago.
For a number of years Mr. Clubb conducted a store on the Avilla road. He had been a resident of Carthage about 15 years.
He is survived by his wife, four sons and a daughter. They are William J., of Carthage, J. W., of Joplin; S. W. of Porto Rico, and H.(sic) [B] M. Clubb of Carthage and Mrs. H. L. Neihardt of Reeds.
He will be buried in Park Cemetery.
