Douglas County Herald, December 27, 1906:
"Two couples in the same notion at the same time. Last Sunday evening, December 23, 1906, Rupert Singleton and Miss Ethel Jennings, and William Clinkingbeard and Miss Lillian Burkhead, all of Ava, accompanied by a few of their young friends secured teams and rigs and drove to the home of Rev. W. J. Fulton near Rome, where Mr. Fulton performed a ceremony which made them men and wives. They were married sitting in their buggies. Rupert and Ethel were first united and William and Lillian immediately afterwards, requiring on a few moments of time to complete the ceremonies which bound them as they desired to be. They then returned to Ava. They are four of ava's society leading young people, and will be greatly missed in the social circle. The girls are both accomplished young ladies. They are two of the precious jewels which are so seldom found. Rupert is the junior member of the firm of J.W. Singleton & Co. clothing store and William Clinkingbeard is an efficient clerk in the Hardware Department of M.C. Reynolds & Co. store. They are both energetic, hard working young men and are possessed of a business knowledge not found in every young man. Their many friends here will join with the Herald in wishing them health, happiness and prosperity. May their days be as happy of the day on which they wedded."
