Anne Rose Hill Clerc
Anne Rose Hill Clerc, of Richlands, VA, passed away at her home on her 91st birthday, Wednesday, August 31, 2011, after a brief illness.
She was born in Port Arthur, TX, to Howard Goodwin and Eula Mae Rose Hill. During her formative years she lived in Roanoke, VA; Port Arthur, Tx; and Alexandria, LA. Early adult life took her to Alexandria, VA; Washington, DC; and Lima, OH. She settled with her growing family in New Orleans, LA, in 1946, moved to Lafayette, LA, in 1958, and relocated to Richlands, VA, in 2006.
Affectionately known as Mom, Anne, Auntie Anne, Granny or GrannyAnne by various generations of family, she was a gracious lady who loved life and had a deep faith in God. She was giving, loved people, and delighted in entertaining family and friends. She had a passion for flowers and gardening, created beautiful needlework, read voraciously, loved the challenge of crossword puzzles, beat everyone at Scrabble, wrote her life's story, kept up with friends and family by snail & e-mail, stayed abreast of current events, loved a good debate, cheered on her favorite tennis stars, and delighted in playing the piano and listening and dancing to all kinds of music.
She attended First United Methodist Church in Richlands where she actively participated in the Wesleyan Sunday School Class, the Sisterhood Circle, the 4th Wednesday Book Study Group, and the Elderberries.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Burton Clerc, Sr. and her son, Philip Burton Clerc, Jr.; two sisters, Virginia Mae Hill Christy and Dorothy Lee Hill Helm; and brother-in-law Glenn A. Christy.
She is survived by her three daughters, Judy Clerc Henry and husband, J.C., of Porter, Tx; Michelle Clerc Lallande and husband, Paul, of Richlands, VA; and Marcia Clerc Warnick and husband, James, of Huntsville, AL; five grandchildren, Christine Wood Bauder and husband, Chris; Amy Elizabeth Collier and partner, Ned Griffis; Adam Paul Lallande; Jennifer Lallande Musick and husband, Mike; and Zachary Clerc Lallande; nine great-grandchildren Douglas Bryant Collier, Allison Michelle Bauder, Elizabeth Clerc Bauder, Anderson Philip Lallande, Chandler Thomas Lallande, Rylee Isabella O'Quin Lallande, Landri Parker Claire Lallande, Kyrian Celeste Lallande-Musick, and Cayman Paul Musick. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, John D. Helm, Sr. and many dear nieces and nephews and loving friends.
In keeping with her generous spirit, Mrs. Clerc gifted her body for medical research to James H. Quillen College of Medicine at Johnson City, TN.
A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church in Richlands, VA, with the Reverend Larry Ramey officiating. Family and friends will gather at the church at 10:00am for visitation.
