Abraham Clemmens, a well known retired employee of the Reading Railroad Company, died of dropsy and heart rouble, at 10:30 p.m., Saturday, at his residence, 242 Maple. While playing a fife in the Big Six Drum Corps, at a ward meeting during the campaign of six years ago, he was stricken at Ninth and Spruce, and he has been in failing health since then. Mr. Clemmens, with William Klineyoung, organized the Big Six corps. He was also a member of the Alpha and Independent corps. He was a first-class fife player, having learned to manipulate the instrument when a boy. Mr. Clemmens was a machinist by trade and worked at the Reading Company's shops for 49 years. He was put on its pension list three years ago. His wife, Sarah (nee Bowman), died five years ago. These children remain: Charles, in the West; William A., Abraham L., George W., all of this city. He was a member of the Lutheran denomination, Junior Fire Company and had many friends. He was a son of Abraham L. Clemmens and was a life-long resident of this city. His father fought in the War of 1812.
