August served as a Sergeant during WWI, spending most of his service in France. As a civilian, he was a supervisor in the carpenter's shop at the General Motors Plant in Janesville. August was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a long time member of the American Legion and of the VFW. He was survived by his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
