Mrs. Walter Cleaver, of Pine Grove, died in Chicago last Sunday where she was undergoing medical treatment. Interment was made at Sherburnville on Tuesday.
Alice D. Hayhurst, daughter of Dr. Wm. and Susannah Hayhurst, was born near Sherburnville, Ill., on the 25th day of November, 1859, and was married on the 9th day of April 1878, to Walter Cleaver of West Creek, Ind., by whom she had two children, both being dead. In January 1882 she united with the Christian church in Sherburnville, Ill., but becoming dissatisfied she withdrew from it by letter in December 1890. She was a kind and loving daughter, a true and affectionate sister, a faithful and loving wife, and an obliging friend and neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. The cause of her death dates back 19 years and her condition had steadily grown worse until her physicians advised her to have an operation performed as the only remedy by which she could receive any permanent relief. She went to the Union Hospital, Englewood, and submitted to an operation on the 20th day of Oct. 1898, but in her weak and feeble state of health the shock proved too great for her and only hastened her death which occurred on the 24th day of Oct. '98. She leaves a husband, a step son, 2 sisters, 4 brothers and a host of friends to mourn her loss.
"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from hence forth yea saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them."
Funeral services were held at Sherburnville, Tuesday, Oct. 25th, 1898, Elder S.A. Strawn officiating, after which her mortal remains were laid away in the cemetery at Sherburnville, there to rest until the morning of the first resurrection.
