JOE TERRELL CLAYTON - 71

Joe Terrell Clayton, age, 71, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 23, in the North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville after a lengthy illness.
The Echols County, Georgia native lived most of his life in Falmouth. He graduated in 1943 from Suwannee County High School. He was a power plant operator for Florida Power Corporation for 35 years and retired as chief operator. He served in the U.S. Navy in the European, Mediterranean and African areas aboard the U.S.S. Ormsby during WW II. He was a member of Hayward Lodge #45 F & AM and was a member of the Union Christian Church in Falmouth where he served as Elder. He was also a member of the Democratic Executive Committee of Suwannee County. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Nobles Clayton of Falmouth, one daughter, Janice Hurdle of Lake Park, Ga., three sons, Terry and Tim Clayton, both of Falmouth, and Dr. Tom Clayton of Gainesville; one step-sister, Clara Hughes of Sebring, Fla., two step-brothers, Woodrow Kinsey of Jacksonville, and Alton Kinsey of Ocala, nine grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 26, at 11 A.M. in the Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmie Deas and Rev. Paul Graham officiating. Interment followed in the Live Oak City Cemetery. Harris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
