Herbert Clawson, 61, chairman of the science and mathematics department at Lake Land College in Mattoon since it was former, died Sunday in Mattoon Memorial Hospital. He resided in Mattoon and formerly was of Windsor.
Before going to Lake Land, he had served several years as a Carthage College faculty member. Mr. Clawson also served 10 years as high school principal in Mattoon before going to Carthage.
Mr. Clawson was born in Shelby County and was married to Martha Elder. He leaves his wife; daughter, Mrs. Gary [Ardeth] Finley, Galesburg; brothers, Howard and John, both of Windsor; sisters, Faye Clawson, Windsor; Alta May Clawson and Mrs. Ethel Moberley, both of Mattoon; Mrs. Margaret Tolliver, Lawrenceville, and two grandchildren.
Burial in Ash Grove Cemetery.
