Charlotte R. Clauson, born August 17, 1908 in Yonkers, N.Y., to Ethel Barquet Rich and William Slack Rich, and departed this life on January 24, 2006.

She was preceded by her husband, Elton James Clauson and a brother, John Henderson Rich. She is survived by her son, John Rich Clauson of Unionville, N.Y. (formerly of Pearl River, N.Y.) and his wife, Barbara, and grandchildren: Sarah Lynn Pannacciulli of Fair Lawn, N.J. and her husband, Michael, and Richard Joseph Pickett Jr. of Ocean Grove, N.J. There are three nieces: Cynthia Brenner of Midlothian, Va., Linda Bell of King, N.C. and her husband, Luke, and Nancy Dietz of Statesville, N.C. and her husband, Dick, along with numerous great nieces and nephews. She was also preceded by a nephew, John Henderson Rich Jr. and a great nephew, William Rich.

Charlotte Miner Rich was among the first graduating class of the Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, N.Y. Upon graduating from the New Paltz Normal School (now SUNY New Paltz), she took a teaching position in the Pearl River School District. This is where she met Elton Clauson, married and built the home in 1938 at 215 Blauvelt Avenue. The first test of her toughness in life came with World War II, when Elton was deployed to the European Theater. She coped with the pregnancy and first 16 months of son, John's life in his absence, with great help from family, friends and neighbors. She retired from teaching at age 65 due to the illness and subsequent departure of Elton. Shortly after, she sold the home and moved to Whispering Pines, N.C., where she bought a home. She lived there independently and drove, until the age of 90. She lived the balance of her life at Quail Haven in Pinehurst, N.C.

Charlotte was a lifelong member of the Christian Science Church. She actively participated in many organizations. They include: Woman's Club, League of Women's Voters, and Coalition for Human Care. She was an accomplished seamstress and had a 'green thumb', especially for African Violets and Pansies.
