Christopher was one of twelve children born to parents David Clarke and wife Eliza Swink Russell.

Christopher, who went by C.C., married Martha Louisa Lea October 6, 1859 in McDonough County, Illinois. They had eight children: Damon; Gertrude; Carrie; Edith Marie; William Lea; Jessie Mae; Charles Rhea; Vena Bertha.

About 1883 the family moved from Illinois to Bentonville, Arkansas. By 1900 they were living in Springdale, Arkansas and Christopher was a merchant grocer. They were still living in Springdale in 1910 and Christopher was a fruit farmer. Christopher died sometime between March 1911 and June 1919. His wife Martha was a widow at the time of her death in June 1919.
