Michael was born to William and Martha Clarke on 05 Apr 1798 in Hammersmith, Middlesex, England. He married Pamela A. Hale on 17 Aug 1832 in Columbus, Georgia (Columbus Enquirer, Columbus, GA, Vol. 5, Issue 15, 25 Aug 1832, Page 3). They are believed to have had 6 children.

Michael's signature comes from the 1840 census for which he was a census taker in Muscogee County, Georgia. He died on 26 Sep 1858 of "congestive chills."

Michael N. Clarke, Enq., one of our oldest citizens, died on Saturday last, and was buried with Masonic honors on Saturday. The deceased was a much respected and useful citizen, and was in his 64th. year. At the time of his death he was High Priest in Darby Chapter, and Secretary of Columbus Lodge. He had served his country well in the Florida War of 1836 as well as in relations of peaceful life.
