Margaret C. McGovern, 82, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2014. Margaret was born on February 20, 1932, in New Rochelle, NY to the late Molly Deenihan Clarke and John Clarke. She worked as a nurse and met her husband John in an operating room while he was in medical school. They married in 1955 and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where they raised five children. Following her husband’s death in 1984, Margaret flew small planes and was a SCUBA diver. She also went back to work, for a dermatologist, and was one of the first female laser therapists in the Country. Margaret is most remembered for the help she provided others and dedication to her children and grandchildren. With her husband John, Margaret helped to develop the John M. McGovern, M.D. Oncology Support Program at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center for which she volunteered for many years following her husband’s death. After moving to The Villages, FL in 2003, Margaret volunteered for an Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group, and did other activities to help people in need. Margaret is predeceased by her son Mike; and is survived by daughter Meg and husband Peter Johnstone of Tampa; sons Jack and wife Beth of Oldsmar, Tom and wife Janet of Lexington Park, Maryland, Jim and wife Gillian of Baltimore, Maryland; sisters Maureen Alfano of Daytona Beach and Alice Stephens of New Rochelle, New York, nine grandchildren Greg, Michael, Molly, John, Sean, Katie, Danny, Mike, and Fionn; and 1 great-granddaughter Ellie. Margaret was loved by many and will be greatly missed. A service in memory of Margaret will be held at Holloway Funeral Home on Saturday September 13, 2014 at 2:00. A graveside service will be held at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium, MD on Saturday,September 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the John M. McGovern, MD Oncology Support Program.
