Rachael (Rachel) Clark was born in Ohio, the daughter of Susanna (Grove) and Archibald Clark who may have been born in Ireland. She married Walker Hampton Bishop on Nov 13, 1834 at Carroll County, Indiana. They lived first at Indiana, then Money Creek, McLean County, Illinois where many of her husband's family members lived. They had at least nine children born between 1837 and 1854. They were: Martin V., who died in early childhhood; sons Tracy, Alfred Harvey, Wesley Franklin, William C., Archibald D., Charles Wesley, Philander Clark, and daughter Sophronia Bishop. Later the family moved to Butler, Iowa where they were pioneers in 1853, and her husband particpated in the Black Hawk Indian War. He became sheriff of Butler County for twelve consecutive years. The family later moved to Cedar County, Nebraska before arriving at Dayton prior to 1883. Rachael was 69 years old that year. Several of their sons and wives also came to Dayton and are interred here. She was preceded in death by sons Martin and Tracy.
