Mrs. Clara Bacon Dies
Pioneer Woman of Portland Passes Away at Daughter's Home.

In the death of Mrs. Clara A. Bacon yesterday morning, Portland lost one of the most highly respected of its pioneer women. Mrs. Bacon came around Cape Horn in 1852, and three years later married Charles P. Bacon of the firm of Sherlock & Bacon. She was 78 years old at the time of her death.

The old home of Mr. and Mrs. Bacon was on the present site of the Chamber of Commerce building. When the land was purchased for the erection of that building they moved to Nineteenth and Kearney streets where they resided up to six years ago, when they made their residence with their daughter, Mrs. George Weidler, 616 Lovejoy St. Mr. Bacon died in 1900. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed, but it is expected that it will be held at the residence of Mrs. Weidler tomorrow afternoon. The burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
