A graveside service for Jennie Clark Austin of McMinnville was held this morning in Crystal Lake Cemetery, Corvallis.
Mrs. Austin died Aug. 1, 2002, in Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville. She was 98.
She was born Jan. 26, 1904, in Portland, the daughter of William C. Clark and Jennie F. Evans.
She received a bachelor's degree from Oregon State College in 1926. She then worked as a teacher in Grangeville and Wallace, both in Idaho. She later returned to Portland, where she taught in Jefferson High School and Grant High School. She received a master of arts degree from Columbia University in 1942. She joined the Army, serving in World War II in the South Pacific from 1943 to 1945. After the war, she became an assistant professor at Oregon State College and served as county extension agent for 4-H and home economics in Hood River County from 1947 to 1956.
She and Kirby Austin were married in 1956. They lived in Tuckahoe, N.Y., until 1969, when they moved to Corvallis. Mrs. Austin moved to Hillside Manor, McMinnville, in 1990.
She belonged to the United Methodist Church, Kappa Delta Sorority and St. Mary's Order of the Eastern Star. She was a life member of the American Home Economics Association. She had belonged to garden clubs wherever she lived and was an avid flower gardener and certified floral arranger. She loved learning and also enjoyed camping and travel.
She is survived by many distant relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Floyd Clark; and a stepson, Clifford Austin.
