Mrs. William Benson was born in Scotland, May 31, 1845 and died at her home on West Fifth Street, in Boone, January 5, 1905. In her native country she was married to Mr. William Benson, October 22, 1860. Her maiden name was Margaret Clark. She came with her husband and two small children to America in 1866, settling first in Pennsylvania, then in Ohio, finally in Boone County in 1878. Deceased leaves a loving husband and nine children, four sons and five daughters, as follows: Mrs. James Crowe, Mrs. Geo. Heaps, peter, Mrs. A.L. Frazier, of Marshalltown; William, Mrs. M. Beer of Perry; Mrs. Chas. Olson, and Robert, a lad of 15. Also two brothers, William and Robert Clark both of this place.
She was taken sick October last with pneumonia, gradually merging in to lung trouble, never leaving her bed till the end came at 5:15 on the morning of January 5, 1905. She had the best care of physicians, trained nurses as well as the tender affection of a devoted husband and children. She was converted in 1862 and though not a member was a consistent Christian worshiper at the Gospel Tabernacle under the pastoral care of Rev J.C. Crawford. She was a most unselfish wife and mother, never sparing herself if others were in need. In all her intercourse with the neighbors and friends she was honest upright and true. Her life has been a benediction to all who knew her.
The funeral will be held at the home at 2 pm and at 2:30 from the Marion street church, Saturday, January 7. The Rev John Earl, E.D., of Waterloo, a former member of her family will attend the funeral.
