Funeral services for Dorothy Clark, of Portales, will be 2 PM., Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at First Baptist Church in Portales. Dr. Herbert Bergstrom of Lubbock will officiate, assisted by the Rev. David McFadden. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Pallbearers will be Lane Clark, Mark Wallace, Chance Shirley, Jeff Curry, Robby Fletcher and Kenneth Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be all the friends and relatives of the family. The family will be gathered at 2308 Happy Lane in Clovis.
Dorothy was born in Afton, Texas, Jan. 4, 1930, to Fred and Pearl (Vaughn) Christopher, and passed away Oct. 4, 2006, at Laurel Plains Nursing Home in Clovis, N.M., at the age of 86. She married Jack Clark on July 21, 1936, in Clovis. They made their home in Roosevelt County, N.M. Jack farmed near Crossroads when they first married, then they bought a farm near Rogers. Jack continued to farm at Rogers after they moved to Portales where he operated a dairy, a grocery store and later a service station. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portales. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to cook and sew for her family. She prepared many wonderful Christmas and Thanksgiving meals for the family. She enjoyed bowling and gardening. She was affectionately known as "Nanny" to all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She continued to make her home in Portales for several years after her husband's death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack, who died May 8, 1990; and by a grandson, Monty Shirley of Clovis. Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Jolene Shirley (Delman) of Clovis and Carol Whitman (Henry) of Hobbs; one son, David "Lanoy" Clark (Beverly) of San Angelo, Texas; six grandchildren, Janet Klingler of Clovis, Carla Fletcher (Robby) of Lubbock, Texas, Mark Wallace of Ft. Worth, Texas, Cindy Byrd (Scott) of San Angelo, Texas, Cari Curry (Jeff) of San Angelo, Texas and Lane Clark (Melissa) of Midland, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Chris Sampson of Austin, Texas.
