Hilda Marie (Clark) Beckham was born March 18, 1930, the daughter of the late Merl and Lela (Guyll) Clark. She departed this earth to be with our Lord and Savior June 25, 2009. Hilda's family moved to the Olive Community shortly after she was born. She and all her siblings, except one sister who died in infancy, attended the Olive Consolidated School. Hilda graduated as valedictorian of her 1948 class and was on the State Honor Roll. After attending short sessions in business and nursing schools, Hilda elected to work in a variety store in Drumright, OK until she married her high school sweetheart, Russell Beckham in a Sunday ceremony at the First Baptist Church in Olive. The couple made their home in Stillwater where Russell earned a Degree in Agriculture in 1951. They then moved to Isabel, KS where Russell taught a four year Veterans On-Farm Training Course, then, in 1955 began a career with a Federal Agriculture Loan Agency. That career took the family to the Kansas towns of Meade, Hugoton, Manhattan and Topeka, then, in 1979, to Washington D.C.. After working six years in the National Office, the family moved back to Stillwater until Russell's retirement in early 1987. Following retirement, they moved back to the Olive community and built on the farm where Russell was born and raised. Hilda's primary priority was that of a good Christian Spouse, mother and homemaker. She worked with the children in all of their scout activities, church programs and school projects. She was active in Christian Women's Club and Bible Study Groups. After the children were older, she worked as a bookkeeper/receptionist in Hugoton and Manhattan. Upon moving to Topeka, she became Resident Manager of the Embassy Apartments and later the Fountain Belau Apartments, until moving to the Washington D.C. area in 1979. While in the Washington D.C. area six years, Hilda was known as a good hostess and tour guide to friends and relatives who visited them. When moving back to Stillwater, OK, Hilda was able to fulfill her desire to host reunions for her cousins and both the Clark and Beckham families Church and family were very important to Hilda. She moved her Church Membership when the family moved and participated in activities by serving in numerous positions over the years. After moving back to Olive, she served as Fellowship Hostess for the First Baptist Church in Olive. Hilda is survived by: her loving husband of fifty-nine years and ten months, Russell Beckham, of the home; sons, Robert Dean Beckham and wife Janice, Fredonia, KS, John Dale Beckham, Sapulpa; one daughter, Deborah (Beckham) Matthews and husband, Robert, Morristown, TN; four grandsons, five great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter and seven step-great-grandchildren.
