Charles Clachrie has a twin brother Alan. Charles contracted polio at age 13, spent a year in an iron lung losing the use of both legs and used crutches for the rest of his life. Dispite this inconvenience he was a long-time committee chairman of the Sea Explorer Ship Admiral H. O. Dunn of Westerly; a founder and charter member of the Greenhaven Sailing Club; owner and operator of the Greenhaven Marina in Pawcatuck; a member of the Westerly Yacht Club, the Westerly Power Squadron, Mystic Seaport Museum, and a 25-year member of Pawcatuck Lodge AF&AM. Charles' remains were cremated and scattered on the Pawcatuck River where he loved to sail. He is memorialized on the backside of his parent's gravestone.

Charles never married and had no children...that he knows of...as Uncle Chaz would often say!
