Anthony "Tony" Cimilluca April 3, 2007
Anthony "Tony" Cimilluca, 90, of Mattydale, died on Tuesday, April 3 after living what he described as an incredible life. Tony was born on October 15, 1916 in Syracuse the son of Samuel and Frances Cimilluca.
He married Rosaria Farrar on June 26, 1937. His earliest occupation was as a huckster. In his youth he and his brothers would frequently travel between Syracuse and New York City to bring fresh fruits and vegetables to the neighborhoods of Syracuse . His family owned a grocery store on Otisco Street. He was also a founding member of the West Side Men's Club. Tony was a strong advocate for worker's rights and he served as a business agent for Teamster's Union Local 317 for 24 years, retiring in 1979. He played an integral role in the creation of the pension fund for construction workers. Tony's greatest passion besides his family was golf. He proudly shot two holes in one in Zephyrhills, Florida when he was in his eighties.
Tony is survived by his wife, Rosaria; his son and daughter- in-law, Samuel and Edna Cimilluca of Mexico, NY ; his daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Anthony Vadala of Mattydale. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Anthony (Deborah) Cimilluca, Samuel (Hope) Cimilluca, Roseann (Gregg) Bayne, Anthony (Toni) Vadala, Michael (Karen) Cimilluca, John Vadala, Nicole Vadala and Beth (Greg) Britton; and 14 great- grandchildren. His surviving siblings are Connie Russo of Syracuse and Joseph "Scratchy" Cimilluca of Syracuse . He was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Frances Cimilluca; and siblings, Samuel, Frank, Peter, Frances, Eleanor and Rose. Tony was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale and assisted with the bingo program for many years. The memories of Tony's generosity and zeal for life will perpetuate with his family always.
Funeral Services will be 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the Krueger Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret's Church. Burial with military honors will be in Assumption Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale.
