Ann Maria Church, known as Hannah M. Church in records after the 1850 Census, was born about 1840, the daughter of Milwaukee pioneer Benjamin F. Church and his wife Permilia. Her father, who arrived in Milwaukee in 1835 from New Paltz, New York, was a pioneer carpenter and builder. Her mother was born in New Hampshire.
Hannah married Sherman A. Bradley on 6 January 1859. He arrived from Connecticut about 1858, working first as a carpenter. They lived in her parents' house on 4th Street between Cherry and Galena in the 2nd Ward. Their son Jesse Charles Bradley was born in 1866 in the Greek Revivial-style Benjamin Church House, today a small pioneer museum in Estabrook Park.
