MRS. CHURCH PASSES AWAY
Death Comes to Kennewick Pioneer Women After Long Illness
Mrs. M. H. Church passed away at her home on West Second Street in this city October 14 at two p.m. She had been ill for a year and a half and her death was not unexpected. A beautiful service was held at the home, Monday afternoon, at two p.m. with Mrs. L. F. Semon and Miss Lula Moulton as soloist accompanied by Miss Beatrice Sherk. Dr. Donald D. MacLaurin read the scripture and Rev. John A, Shaw offered prayer. As a friend of the family, M. M. Moulton in a most appreciativee manner told of the life of service that Mrs. Church had lived. At the cemetery the brief service was shared by Dr. MacLaurin and Rev. Shaw.
The following friends of the family were pall bearers: L. E. Johnson, F. J. Arnold, W. G. King, R.E. Pratt, J. J. Rudkin and Edward Sheppard.
Lois Worden Church was born at Antrioch, Illinois, December 17, 1858 (to Charles Bingham WORDEN and Lestina Direxa ORVIS CHURCH). When a child her family moved to Alden, Illinois where she lived until her marriage to Meryln H. Church, January 1, 1880. Both Mr. and Mrs. Church were graduated from Walnut Academy in Smithem, Wisconsin in 1876.
Mrs. Church then taught school for one year. The first twelve years of her married life were spent in Wisconson on the same farm where Mr. Church lived and here four children were born, Vivian C. Holt, Beaulah C. Marriott of Claremont, California, Inez C. King and a boy Cyrus, who died at the age of 20 months. In 1891 the family moved to Chicago where they lived until 1907. Since that time Kennewick has been their home.
When a girl, Mrs. Church united with the Methodist church and during her life was always interested in church work. No more fitting tribute can be uttered than the words of Matthew 25: 21 "Well done, thine good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
All three daughters of M.H. Church were DAR members here in Kennewick in the first DAR chapter here.
