A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of twenty-eight in Harrisburg September 5, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 7 as a private with Co. D, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865.
He married Caroline Heater ca. 1866, but they apparently had no children.
