Arthur Estes Christy, 74, of Austin, Texas, died on Thursday, June 2, 2011. He was born July 3, 1936 in Tribune, Kansas, to the late Donald and Helen (Shedd) Christy.

Art graduated from Kansas State University in 1963 with an Industrial Engineering Degree, married Diane and worked for Westinghouse Electric followed by almost 25 years with IBM as an advisory engineer. Upon retirement, he agreed to be Diane's Real Estate assistant for the many social benefits it provided.

Art was a loving, kind father, a devoted and wonderful husband and soul mate. He was the genuine thing and a true friend to many although very reserved. He was extremely generous, humbled but with strong values and ethics and had a heart of gold. His faith as a Christian was very strong and was prepared to be with Our Lord and Savior.

Art was preceded in death by his son, Don.

He is survived by his wife Diane; son, Mark, daughter-in-law, Denise; grandchildren, Michael, Michele, Ryan and Benjamin; brother, Donald Christy and wife Peggy; sister, Alice Lay; nieces and nephews, Thanh, Jessica, Vance, Andrew, Sosha, David, Susan and Nancy; and numerous other family and many friends.

Art fought valiantly against the ravages of metastatic cancer that started in his bladder and rapidly spread throughout his body. He spent his last days at home in the care of his wife and loving friends.

Diane wants to thank the physicians that treated Art, particularly Dr. Nuesch, his radiologist. She also thanks the nurses, especially hospice nurses, for the kindness and loving care given Art in his final days.

Visitation is from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with services at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Beck Funeral Home, FM 1431 in Cedar Park, Texas. The Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2011, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Austin, Texas by the Vicar General Monsignor Mike Sis. Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas.

Contributions can be made in Art's name to CaringBridge.org and the military program T.A.P.S. www.taps.org.
