Dovie was my grandmother's little sister. They were separated from their brother Homer when they were young and their mother died. The two girls were shuttled from one place to another as family tried to secure a home for them.

Grandma tried hard to stick together with Dovie. After Grandpa Harris died, they were sent to Oklahoma to live with their uncle, but Grandma was very unhappy there. She begged Dovie to come back to Timpson, Texas with her, but Dovie liked her new home in Oklahoma. It broke Grandma's heart to leave her little sister behind.

Near the end of her life, Grandma wrote: "My sister was a good girl. No man ever touched her but her husband. She loved her children very much. . . I loved my sister Dovie Mitchell very much."
