WASHINGTON, IL - Arlene E. Christopher, 86, a resident of Leisure Acres in Washington for more than 18 years, passed away at 2 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Pekin Manor in Pekin.
She was born Nov. 19, 1921, in Peoria, Ill., to Louis J. and Marie A. (Hempel) Hauck. She married Arthur A. Christopher on Oct. 25, 1941, in Peoria.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 27, 1987; her parents; and one infant brother.
Surviving are three daughters, Joyce (Tom) Fugate of Galesburg, Sharon (Michael) Shaver of East Peoria and Patti D. Cassidy of Marquette Heights; and one sister, Opal (Gilvie) Chambers of Montgomery, Ill. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jerry Cassidy Jr. of Marquette Heights and Kim Dubois of Creve Coeur; four great-grandchildren, Kayla, Alexis and Haley Dubois and Gage Burris, all of Creve Coeur; and one niece, Karen (Darrell) Smith of Oswego, Ill.
Arlene was a graduate of Manual High School. She worked at Becks Florist for several years before working as a bookkeeper with her husband at 2-Way Radio in Peoria, for many years.
She held several offices with the Creve Coeur PTA, including being a past president, and sang with the Mother's Club in the Creve Coeur Choir. Arlene attended Northwest Baptist Church in Peoria.
She was a devoted wife who loved and cared for her family greatly.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. The Rev. Richard Springsteen will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2008, at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow the service at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
Memorials may be made to Northwest Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society or to the American Lung Association.
