Anna was the daughter of Norwegian immigrants who meet and married in Minnesota. The family moved to North Dakota where Anna married Henry Baker and bore 11 children.
It's believed that when Henry was in his 20's he and his two brothers Arthur and Heber left Cornwall for western Canada. Henry decided to enter the United States into North Dakota in 1887, while his brothers continued to Vancouver, British Columbia.
Henry met and married Anna Christofferson in Lakota, Nelson, North Dakota. They settled in Ramsey County, North Dakota where he farmed as worked as a painter. They lived in Minnewauken Township up until at least 1900 and several of their children were born there. Later in their marriage Henry and Anna lived in a large house in Oberon, North Dakota, where he worked in a grocery store and did odd jobs as a painter.
In about 1919, Anna inherited a section of land, left her by her father Erland Christofferson. This land was located in Ramsey county in the township of Odessa, section 3 bordering Siver Christoffersons property. Henry built a large home and began to farm crops of wheat, corn, barley and oats.
The planting and tending of large gardens was left up to the women, as well as all the canning of hundreds of quarts of vegetables and fruits to feed a large family through the long winter months.
Raising a large family in the days when electricity was not a household convenience, or water flowing from a facet at a kitchen sink, but instead had to be pumped and hauled from a well, made the task of laundry or just doing the dishes a chore everyone helped with.
Lillian Ostrom, the eldest granddaughter of Anna's remembers when her grandmother finally got a washer, it was wood, square and had to be hand pumped, which everyone had to take turns, 15 minutes at a time, to get the laundry done. Anna was delighted with it, for it was much better then the old scrub board.
