Bette E. Babbitt, 87, of Kearney died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Bette was born March 29, 1923, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Edward and Marie (Skaith) Christensen.

On March 23, 1946, she married Bernard Babbitt in Council Bluffs.

Survivors include her husband; son, David Babbitt and wife Sue of Pleasanton, granddaughters, Alexis Pennington and Caitlin Babbitt and great-grandson, Beckett; daughter, Sue Babbitt of Denver, grandchildren, Karla Jones and Steve Schneider and great-grandson, Rhys; daughter, Sarah Stubbs and husband Keith of Pleasanton, grandsons, Adam and Clint Stubbs and great-grandchildren, Calley, Hayden, Colton and Bentley; daughter, Sandra Pratt and husband Denis of Kearney and grandsons Tyler and Carter Pratt; daughter, Shari Peterson and husband Rex of Riverdale, grandchildren, Jordan Cochran, Zach, Cole and Nolan Peterson, and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Huston and Elle; daughter, Stacey Mayberry and husband Mark of Chapman, Kan., and grandchildren, Schuyler and Addie Mayberry; and brother, Edward Christensen and his wife, Dorothy, of Omaha.

She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs in 1941. During World War II, she worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

She and Bernard lived in Kearney then moved to the Amherst area where they lived from 1952 to 2002. They then moved back to Kearney where they have lived since.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Kearney, the American Legion Auxiliary in Council Bluffs for 74 years and was also a Job's Daughter in Council Bluffs. She enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle and watching Nebraska football.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Neve; an infant daughter; and grandson, Bronson Stubbs.
