Mrs. Sarah Adkisson
Sarah Maria Chrisman, daughter of Edgar M. and Harriet E. Chrisman, was born Dec. 9, 1850, and passed away Sunday morning, March 8, 1936, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis Rutherford on West College Avenue, Jacksonville. She grew to womanhood on the farm home one mile east of Merritt, Illinois.
At the age of 19 years she became a member of the Christian church of Lynnville, Illinois. In 1878, she was united in marriage with James P. Adkisson; to this union were born three children. She was preceded in death by her husband and one infant son.
She is survived by two children, Mrs. Louis Rutherford, with whom she was living, and W. E. Adkisson of Salinas, California, also three sisters, Mrs. R. A. Briggs of Gibson City, Ill., Mrs. Emma Bradley, of Pasadena, Cal., and Mrs. Laura Combes, near Jacksonville; one brother, E. M. Chrissman, of Jacksonville, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was a loving mother, a good neighbor, always doing something for someone which made life worth living to her. Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Winchester, at 1:30 o'clock, Tuesday, March 10th, Rev. R. L. Schwab officiating, with music furnished by the choir with Miss Ethel McClure at the organ. Many beautiful flowers were banked about the bier and were cared for by Mrs. Hattie Swain, Mrs. Wm. Babb and Miss Inabelle Swain. The pallbearers were all nephews of the deceased as follows: Bert Chrissman, Allen Chrissman, Claude Bean, Fred Watson, Fred Sayer and Adison Hills.
Interment was in the Kincaid cemetery.
