Betty Jo Chisler

Mrs. Betty Jo Chisler, 83, of South Charleston passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at home with members of her family by her side.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Milton Riggall and Edith Mae Riggall; her brother, Robert Milton Riggall; her sister-in-law, Marguerite Riggall; and two infant brothers.

Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Clifton L. Chisler. She is also survived by her daughters and their husbands, Valarie and Steve Hart of Charleston and Lisa and Jeff Breeden of Winfield; and her sons and their wives, John and Shirlee Chisler of Seabrook, Texas, and Robert and Anna Chisler of Chesapeake, Ohio; along with grandchildren, Tim Hoff and wife, Terra, Grant and Bryce Breeden and Jason and Christopher Chisler; great-grandchildren, Breece and Bailey Hoff; and stepgrandchildren, Christopher and Nicole Hart.

Betty was born Dec. 9, 1923. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and an active member of the community. She was past matron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 131, South Charleston, twice past president of South Charleston Junior Women's Club and a 42-year member of Thousand Oaks Garden Club, of which she was a past president and one of the charter members. Betty was a member of United Disciples of Christ Church, formerly Boyd Memorial Christian Church, a member of the Alley Cats Exercise Group and a past member of the Women's Symphony. Betty was a good friend to many and she loved to entertain friends and family, always decorating her house to the hilt. She was highly respected and deeply loved and she will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, with graveside service to follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. The Rev. Steven A. Smith will preside over the services.

Friends may call between the hours of 3 and 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
