Dorothy ''Dottie'' R. Brooks, 77, of the 100 block of Glendale Ave., a retired civil service communications specialist, died May 8, 1990, in her home.

Mrs. Brooks was a native of Ashland, Ky. She was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church, Elizabeth Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and Ladies Oriental Shrine.

Survivors include her husband, Robert G. Brooks; a daughter, Genevieve B. Seguinot of Norfolk; a son, Robert G. Brooks Jr. of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mary L. Ward of Oxford, Ohio; a brother, Stanley Chinn of Portsmouth; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. W. Dabney Walters. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family fron 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.

Contrary to her birth certificate name and info cited above, she later used the name and spelling of her maiden name as "Dorothy Elizabeth Chinn."

Her tombstone pictured here has the wrong date of birth and middle initial. The "R" probably refers to her mom's "Riggs" surname as Dorthy sometimes used it as well.
She was a long time communications specialist worker at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Norfolk, VA. She was a member of The Eastern Star.
