Served as a sergeant in 4th Regiment (Mountjoy's) Mounted, Kentucky Volunteers, War of 1812, but is identified as Col. A Chinn on his tombstone.

One of the first members of the new Campbellite sect Disciples of Christ (Christian Church) in Shelbyville, KY, in 1830.

Achilles Chinn was buried in the cemetery that is now on the grounds of the Shelbyville Library.
