Mamie Della Chilson Bennett, 85, passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 7, 2016 and was soon re-united with her husband of 67 years, Frederick Orin Bennett Sr., 90, who passed away Monday evening, Feb. 8, 2016. The couple made their home on Barclay Mountain, Franklin Township for many years.
Mamie was born in Towanda on May 16, 1930, the daughter of Albert Leonard and Minnie Chilson. In early years, Mamie was employed by the Berlinger Silk Mill in Towanda. On Oct. 6, 1948 Mamie and Fred were united in marriage. Mamie's main interest in life surrounded her home and family. She was a member of the Monroeton Rod & Gun Club and enjoyed carpentry work and caring for her flowers.
Fred was born in Towanda on Dec. 16, 1925, the son of John and Maude Bennett. In early years, Fred served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Fred was employed by Penelec in Towanda for over 40 years until his retirement. Fred was also a member of the Monroeton Rod & Gun Club, Towanda Gun Club and Towanda American Legion. Fred loved the outdoors, hunting and visiting with family and friends.
Their family includes their daughter Patricia K. Bennett of Liberty Corners; daughters-in-law Carol Johnson Bennett and Kathy Tuttle Bennett of Monroeton; grandchildren James Otis Bennett II., Jeremy Russell Bennett, Shelly Bennett Middendorf, Freda Marie Bennett, Brendon Johnson, William Dean Pelton Jr., Michael Paul Bennett; several great grandchildren; Fred's siblings Carl Bennett of Seattle, Wash., Janet Bennett Chilson of Herrickville, Jean Bennett Parks of Wyalusing; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to their parents, Fred and Mamie were preceded in death by their sons Frederick Orin Bennett Jr., James Otis Bennett; Mamie's siblings Clyde and Leonard Chilson and Minnie Chilson and Fred's siblings Ruth Drislane and Donald Bennett.
A memorial service for Mamie and Fred will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. with Rev. Thomas Blackall officiating. Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 will accord military honors at the funeral home.
Interment will be private. The family suggests that contributions may be directed to the Monroe Hose Company, P.O. Box 48, Monroeton, PA 18832 or to the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company, 15 Grange Road, Monroeton, PA 18832 in Mamie and Fred Bennett's memory.
