Ann W. Childs, 90, of 414 Broadway St., died Friday, June 15, 2001, at the King's Daughters' Hospital.
She was born on June 27, 1910, in Avalon, Pa., the daughter of Howard and Gertrude Routzan Waybright. A graduate of the Boston School of Occupational Therapy, she worked in hospitals in Boston and Indianapolis. She was active in the Tri Kappa Sorority, the Madison Woman's Club, Historic Madison, Inc., the Jefferson County Historical Society, and as a volunteer at the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library. Between 1993 and 2000 seven of her articles were published in various historical periodicals. She was awarded the Jefferson County Historical Society's Lifetime Achievement Award in November 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Victoria Sorrells of St. Louis and Kim Kreuzburg of Madison; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Wallace E. Childs, on Oct. 18, 1986; and one sister, Martha Stiles.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home Madison Chapel, with private family burial at Springdale Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call from noon until time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Broadway Fountain Fund through the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County or to the Jefferson County Historical Society.
