Merle Childs was the daughter of Lonnie and Ruby (Newman) Childs. She was a 1932 graduate of Fairfield High School, a legal stenographer in the Court House and also worked in the Tax Collector's office. She married Feb. 15 1936 to Joseph Weldon Sawyer of Mexia, TX. They were the parents of twins, Laurie Ann and Joseph Weldon "Buzz" Sawyer, Jr.
Merle joined the First Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher for 18 years and Chairman of the Ruby Childs U. M. U. circle for many years.
Merle and Weldon lived in Fairfield until Weldon sold his Paint & Body Shop and then moved to Houston. Merle's husband Weldon died in 1976 after a lengthy illness. Merle remarried to Carl Wilson, a widower, in Houston. Carl's death was in 1984 and he is buried in Walker Co., TX beside his first wife Grace. You can see memorial #57027658 for Carl.
