Funeral services for Herbert "H. L." Childress age 93, of Grayson, will be held 12:00 PM Friday, May 11, 2012 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Daniel Breithaupt officiating. Interment will follow at Roberts Cemetery in Kelly. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 am until service time at the funeral home.

H. L. was born February 18, 1919 to Herbert Thomas and and Lee Etta Childress in Caldwell Parish and he passed from this life on May 5, 2012 at the LA War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA.

He served his country in the United States Navy and he was a veteran of WWII. He served as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a member of the Catholic faith and was a supporter of Springhill Baptist Church and Roberts Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Liilian Servas Childress; his parents; sister: Vergie Childress.

He is survived by his daughter: Kathryn Ward and her husband Kelly of St. Francisville; two grandchildren: Emily Bivens and her husband David; Toby Ward and his wife Tanya; He is also survived by his wife: Helen Couch Childress.
