Mr. Luther Childers, 80, husband of Myrtle Humphries Childres, of 2080 Wilkerson Road, died Wednesday, February 24, 1999, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Mr. Childers was born in York County, a son of John and Rachel Childers. He was a retired loom fixer from Cannon Mills Inc. He was a veteran of World War II (Army). He was predeceased by three sisters, Mrs. Mary Shrader, Miss Fannie Mae Childers and Mrs. Lucy Freeman; five brothers, Harry, Willie, Charlie and Walter Childers.
Also surviving are: three sons, Larry Childers and Michael Childers both of York, and Joey Childers of Hickory Grove; a daughter, Pat C. Krepps of York; a stepson, Gary N. Childers of Spartanburg; two stepdaughters, Dorothy Ann Steward of Hickory Grove and Billie Jean Childers of Spartanburg; a brother, Mason Childers of Lockhart; a sister, Ella V. Crocker of Pineville, N.C.; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the York Funeral Home, with the Rev. Olivene Martin officiating and the Rev. Donald Childers assisting. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Active Paulbearers will be Jerry Childers, Gonzalee Childers, Shohn Krepps, Chris Smith, Bobby Hope and Gene Robbins.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at York Funeral Home.
The York Funeral home has charge of the arrangements.
Luther like playing a guitar and watching baseball.

Beyond the sunset, beyond the clouds, there's a land we cannot see.
The land where angels reside with the Great Creator of all that has been, is, or will ever be.
Where the loved ones gone before us watch down from Heaven above.
If we but listen closely, we'll hear them reassure us of their undying love.
You see, they never leave us, they just move on before, and when we ascend the rainbow stairway, they'll be there waiting, holding open Heaven's door.
