Gayel Chew was born in Vernal UT, July 11, 1919 to Mae (Mobley) Chew, and Mark Metcalf Chew. He died June 21, 2008 at Carson Tahoe Hospital, after a brief illness.
He served in the U.S. Navy 1943 - 1947.
He married his wife Jean, on May 8, 1947, and was married for 47 years. His beloved wife, died in 1994. He lived in Reno, from 1947, until 1985, when he moved to Oregon. He returned to Nevada in 2004, and resided in Washoe Valley, for the last four years.
While in Reno he mainly worked as a Journeyman Binderyman, and supervisor for Silver State Press, and later for A. Carlisle & Company, both, large commercial printers. He was a member of the Bookbinders Union for many years, and a member of the Elks Club. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He had a profound love and respect for nature and the land. His family and friends remember him as the quiet strength behind the family. He had a great sense of humor, a quick wit, and a sparkling smile.
He was honest, fair, and sincere, in all aspects of his life, and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Gayel Marie (William) Helm, of Washoe Valley, NV; son, Mark William (Carol) Chew, of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Georgia Marie (Ed) Osowski of Merrimac, WI; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
